Kent State Adds Versatile Forward
Kent State announced he signing of Marquiez Lawrence on Wednesday. The 6’8 Marion-Franklin product helped lead the Red Devils to a district championship averaging 12 points and eight rebounds per game last season.

Padua Franciscan senior Tyler Ptacek committed to Evansville on Tuesday. The 6’2 sharp shooting guard and former UNC-Wilmington signee averaged 19.2 points per game as a senior at Padua. Ptacek made a name for himself last season with the Ohio Basketball Club.
Colerain senior Milton Davis has committed to play at the College of Wooster. Davis averaged 17.6 points and 3.9 rebounds last season and was an All-Area selection.
Thurgood Marshall senior Mark Alstork will sign with Ball State becoming the first pledge for Head Coach James Whitford. The 6’4 senior averaged 21 points and six rebounds per game as a senior for a team that finished 23-2 last season.
New Head Coach Jayson Gee has picked up his first commitment in 6’7 forward Damarion Geter. The Dayton Dunbar product averaged over 11 points and 8 boards per game last season for the 21-7 Wolverines.
St. Ignatius senior Derek Sloan has committed to Cleveland State and will be part of the Viking’s program for the next five years. Sloan will not play next season because of a lack of available scholarships but will still be part of the program with an eye toward the 2014-15 season.
The 6’5 forward averaged 15 points and 6 rebounds per game for the Wildcats and helped lead them to a 21-4 record last season.
Archbishop Alter senior Jaaron Simmons has committed to the University of Houston following a season that saw him average 24 points per game. Simmons finished his career as the Knights’ all-time leading scorer and was named Ohio Player of the Year by JJHuddle.
Simmons chose Houston over Wichita State, Butler, Xavier, Dayton and UCF.
Lakota West senior Monty Boykins committed to Lafayette during his official visit last weekend. Boykins was the team’s leading scorer averaging over 17 points and 9 rebounds per game before tearing his ACL in late December.
The senior guard also considered Miami (OH), Duquesne, Toledo, James Madison, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Kennesaw State, Kent State, Eastern Kentucky and Robert Morris.
Villa-Angela St. Joseph’s Forward DeMonte Flannigan gave his verbal commitment today to Cleveland State University. Flannigan, 6’7 220, is an athletic and powerful inside player who possesses a nice touch around the rim. As a junior,he averaged 16.5 PPG while being named 1st Team All State in Division IV. Playing this spring for Ohio Basketball Club, Flannigan continued to garner more interest from many Division I schools. The senior chose the Vikings over Richmond, Akron, Duquesne, and UNC Wilmington.
Canton McKinley big man, Mike Mills verbally committed today to Lincoln Memorial, a top ranked Division II school in Tennessee. The 6’8 long and athletic Mills, who last year averaged 9 ppg, 7 rpg, and 3.5 bpg, has the potential to be a force inside. Mills, playing this spring for DB Hoops, began receiving some looks from Division I schools as well throughout the spring/summer session. Bowling Green was among some of the schools at both the Division I and II level recruiting Mills.
