He’s a 6’6 stretch wing, with a lights out jumper, great decision maker, has his own clothing brand, and still maintains a 4.0 GPA while attending Benedictine High School. Andy Barba does it all, literally. When I got a chance to talk with Andy, and ask him how he maintains basketball and his business he told me, ”During the basketball season and school I wasn't able to really pay much attention to the goat brand because I was so busy, but now that I have a little more time I'm able to balance both.” Just let this sink in, this is a high school student athlete, that has a long summer due to basketball, has his own business, and still has the will and want to succeed in the classroom with a 4.0 GPA. He also understands what he needs to improve on to get to the next level, when I talked with his trainer Dave Schierbaum (MAQ Training) he basically told me Andy has the potential, with his size and jump shot to go as far as he wants. Including saying, ”Compared to the other 100’s of pro athletes we’ve had at that age he is right on track.” I asked Andy what the team goal was for Benedictine this season, his simple answer, ”Nothing less then a state championship.” Andy Barba isn’t your average high school athlete, he’s flat out special. Between the lines he expects nothing but perfection from himself. Dave told me, ”In 17 years of training athletes he is top 1%. He chooses growth and development of his craft before anything outside of school and family, and in this generation with all of the distractions that is rare,” when asked about Andy’s work ethic. Is this the year the “best student section in Ohio,” according to Andy makes a state championship push?
